These appear to be from 1921 at the FIRST Easter Sunrise Service at the Hollywood Bowl then known as Daisy Dell. It is possible these are from the following year in 1922, however by comparison to 1922 images of this event, these appear to lack the organized rows and sections in the crowd at the 1922 service. With some close inspection and comparison to known photo's of both events the year these were taken could be readily established.

These photos were recovered from a box of personal ephemera belonging to Carl Bronson a composer and founding member of the Gamut Club and the Theosophical society in Los Angeles.

The Theosophical society was a driving force in the creation of the Hollywood Bowl.

Strangely enough, the reason for the Bowl’s existence is directly connected to this 94-year-old tradition, which began on March 27, 1921 in old Daisy Dell, soon to be known as the Hollywood Bowl. The first affair was a fairly simple one, with 2,000 faithful folk gathering in the pre-dawn darkness. Bugles and trumpets sounded at 5:40 a.m. as a poemwas read, and the Philharmonic Orchestra played "holy, Holy, Holy"as the sun peeped over the hills. At the time there was no stage, no seating, no trademark shell, but the acoustics were nothing short of heavenly.

The “Hollywood Bowl Easter Sunrise Service Committee” bought the land in 1921 and passed it on to the county in 1924 for the continuation of the tradition. The Bowl’s famed shell along with a platform for musicians was added in 1926. An actual stage was erected in 1927.

There is damage to the edges of both photographs (pictured) the paper is in overall fair/good condition and these original photographs can be famed as is or conserved to improve their value and appearance.
