THE C.I.A. PAID $35,000 FOR ORIGINAL ART FOR 16-PAGE GIVEAWAY COMIC, \"GRENADA\":
$9950.00

This is the COMPLETE ORGINAL ART of \"GRENADA (Rescued From Rape and Slavery)\" by Jack Sparling of the legendary, almost cult-like comic book ever commissioned by the United States CENTRAL INTELLIEGENCE AGENCY. This is the artwork that collectors have asked me about for years, the comic book that is wrapped up in world-famous lore and has been written about (including the \"story\" behind it) in practically every comic magazine or book that has ever touched on the work of Malcolm Ater (my father) and his Commercial Comics company, the largest political, educational and promotional comic book publisher in the world from 1946-1992. (See Comic Book Marketplace, May 2003, the long article by Tom Christopher, \"Malcolm Ater and the Commercial Comics Company,\" Richard Graham, the book Government Issue Comics for the People, 1940\'s-2000\'s, p.19 (along with many other pages in the book devoted to Malcolm Ater, including complete comic stories produced by him), and other publications, etc., etc.)
Yes, this book was authorized and paid for by the C.I.A ! And this is the book that collectors have talked about for years and have inevitably asked me if it was for sell. And NO PART of this complete set of artwork has EVER been offered for sale before (16 individual pages of art). Now for the story behind it: Of course the C.I.A. and practically every politician in Washington knew of Malcolm Ater. After all, not only did he write the first national political comic book in history (for Harry Truman\'s Presidential campaign in 1948, but he also did the official White House magazines for both President Ford and President Carter (different parties, too!), and he had so successfully cornered the market on political comic books that he turned out over ten times more political comic books (literally) than all his competitors combined!
So it came as little surprise when he received a phone call at his Washington office from the C.I.A. for a little \"meeting. \" The deal was that my father would keep no written records of any meetings, correspondence, etc., and that literally the ONLY person who would know about this comic book was his artist, Jack Sparling (also my Uncle), who was described in a Sotheby\'s art catalogue from the 1980\'s \"as one of the Greatest Artists of Realism in the Country\". All meetings were arranged in nondescript places. And when this book was finished and it was time to pay my father, a CIA official picked up my father in a taxi down the street from his Massachusetts Avenue office on Embassy Row. While the taxi driver circled nearby Dupont Circle several times, the officer handed my father a briefcase and said simply, \"You know nothing about this,\" and my father was then dropped off down the street from his office. The briefcase? It contained over $35,000 in cash. Pretty cool, huh? So what happened with the comic books? The C.I.A. air-dropped all the comics over the island of Grenada after the U.S.-led invasion to overthrow the Communist regime that had taken hold of the island. And that story came directly from my father.
So, what about the comic? When I slowly read every balloon and caption as I studied the artwork, my stomach actually became queasy. It\'s not a pretty story, and what makes it even more horrible is that you KNOW it\'s true! Like the Commies using jeeps to intentionally crush injured and wounded soldiers as they lay dying on the ground, laughingly throwing dead and wounded bodies into a huge fire instead of the dignity of burying them, shooting prisoners and innocent victims at point blank range with AK-47 rifles, bashing handcuffed prisoners in the spine or lower frontal midsection with the butt of their rifles, and on and on it goes, all GRAPHICALLY ILLUSTRATED in horrific detail as only Jack Sparling could depict it, his artwork showing the almost manic BRUTALITY of their soldiers.
And the true Realistic Detail of Jack Sparling\'s artwork almost brings the comic book\'s characters into your own room. There are more than a dozen Communist villains or government sympathizers portrayed in the book (all of them named with their picture drawn by Jack Sparling), and when I looked each of them up on the internet, I was able to recognize virtually every one of them by the realism portrayed in his artwork. Amazing! This was a classic tell-all, and our Central Intelligence Agency spared nothing in getting the real truth out!
The only thing untruthful about the gut-wrenching art and story that goes with it is where the story originates from. Supposedly it is told by a man known as A.C. Langdon who was imprisoned by the Communists and is telling his own story of what happened. That was the CIA intervening with a fictitious name. And the book was supposedly copyrighted by him. That was false, too, but then again my father was not allowed to use his name as the writer or publisher of the book, nor was Jack Sparling\'s name listed as the artist. (This would not be a good idea for their health said the CIA.) This complete artwork comes with a notarized document that the script was written by Malcolm Ater and ALL artwork and lettering done by Jack Sparling. (See photo of notarized letter in pic section.) Look at the photos of the artwork. The front cover has some glue stains from where the lower caption was stripped in that reads RESCUED FROM RAPE AND SLAVERY, but it in no way affected the integrity of the printing ( a professional could easily remove these glue stains. However, some collectors have told me they would prefer to keep the artwork as is because it shows the strain and effort that went into the integrity of the work). But whatever your preference, the front page is a beauty except for the gruesomeness of dead bodies piled one over another as Commie soldiers shoot lame and crippled people at point-blank range with AK-47 rifles. There are some places where balloons or captions were stripped in, of course, (again showing the artist\'s precision to minute detail), but the artwork itself is almost ABSOLUTELY CLEAN, WHITE, AND NEAR PERFECT. PLEASE CHECK OUT THE PHOTOS AND SEE FOR YOURSELF! (The front cover measures 15\" x 11\", while the other pages measure 14 1/2\" x 10\") .
Also included with the complete 16-pages of artwork are FIVE copies of the completed book in excellent condition and the notarized letter of authenticity relating to the art of Jack Sparling!
This book and the artwork sends out a powerful message in a very powerful way and is ALREADY BECOMING NOT JUST A CULT STORY, BUT A FASCINATING PART OF AMERICAN LORE!!!
